All You Need To Know About Septic System Installation

We have seen a recent spurt in commercial and industrial properties with no access to the public sewage system.   Waste water is one of the biggest pollutant causing health hazards. This waste water has to be treated and handled systematically. The Septic system is an onsite water management and treatment system that is commonly installed in residential and commercial properties.

Waste water management systems are of two types:

1)      Gravity fed

2)      Alternative system that includes aerobic treatment unit

Before you begin the septic system installation, remember to get all the relevant permits as required by your state, city or county.

Preliminary check list

Before you design your onsite septic system, you must consider the size of your land, the depth of the water table during different season, bedrocks, access for maintenance and future replacement options.

A septic tank is usually 12 feet X 8 feet, though it can be of a different size depending upon the number of people. The drain field is usually two lateral 150 feet long and 10 feet apart for most homes.

Only after you have got the clearances, it is worth installing the wastewater management system.

A guide to septic tank installation

  1. Embedment material, fittings, hand saw and glue.
  2. Place the pipeline from the home/building to the septic tank pit.
  3. The flow of wastewater in a gravity fed system must flow downhill. As no mechanical discharge method is used, gravity works to discharge the waste from the tank.
  4. Else a pump and a distribution box needs to be set up for a mechanical septic tank system.
  5. A concrete aerobic divided tank and perforated pipes that are embedded in the gravel are used in this system.
  6. Excavate a large hole to set the concrete tank below the ground level. The lower section of the tank receives all the effluents after a bacterial breakdown which is further broken down before it is drained into the leech field.
  7. The upper section of the concrete tank receives all the wastewater and effluents from the house or building
  8. The drop in the pipe from the home to the septic tank is calculated as: length of the sewer line from house drain X 1/4th inch drop per foot = drop in pipe level in inches. A little more pipe drop is convenient and practical too
  9. Inspect the septic tank for damages. The tank should be water tight so it does not contaminate the drinking water
  10. Place the perforated pipe in the drain field with the end cap
  11. Get the system inspected by the authorities. Once it is approved, cover up the area with as per the regulation of the health department
  12. In case of the alternative septic tank, install a pump chamber after installing the septic tank. This chamber hosts the electric pump which is used to move the effluents from place to place and ultimately to dispose it into the drain field

Drainfield

The most common types of drainfields are rock drainfield system and chamber trench drainfield system. Excavate a trench that contains the distribution system. The trench should be excavated in a soil that is dry and crumbly as wet soil decreases the capacity for the soil to absorb the wastewater.

The trench should have almost no slope, though a 3 inch per 100 feet drop is acceptable. Place gravel at the bottom if required, place the perforated pipe and cover it with loose rocks, which should be absolutely free of fine material. Make sure that the perforated side of the pipes is not facing down.

If you are installing a distribution box, then one more trench will be required. Do remember to check as per the local regulations. The distribution box must lie undisturbed.

Note:

Contact the utility companies before you start digging.

You may set up the septic system, but septic tank field maintenance is very crucial for efficient working of your wastewater management system. Plumbing companies like Dyanamerican offer septic service that includes installation, inspection and maintenance of the septic system.

Availing septic services of professional reduces your repair and replacements costs as well as eliminates the health hazard due to water contamination.

Is Your Money Going Down The Drain?

Don’t let your hard earned money go down the drain in the literal sense. Drain blockages result in draining your money and upsetting your budget. Proper plumbing and drain cleaning helps you to save on the cost of repairs as well as the headache of the stink caused due to blockage of the drainage system.

Every building, whether commercial or residential has a drainage system, which needs to be cleaned and maintained for free flow of the waste water. Maintenance and periodic plumbing drain cleaning are required. The floor drains are a breeding ground for micro-organisms as food, air and moisture is available for their growth and multiplication. There are two types of pathogens, one is the free pathogens that float on the water and the other that are embedded in the bio film formed inside the drains. The floating microorganisms can be destroyed by the drain cleaning procedure. The ones that are embedded in the bio film need special treatment.

Effective drain cleaning procedure

  • Brush the drain with a cleaning solution and rinse it. Make sure you select the correct brush size and use a round brush movement to clean the drain. An up, down movement will break the pathogens structure, which may probably come up when you rinse the drain
  • Underground drain pipes cannot be reached by a brush. Professional drain solution providers use technology and powerful equipments to clean the drains

When It Comes To Drains And Sewers…

‘Keep the water flowing’ is the secret of efficiently working drains and pipe lines. Clogged drains and sewer lines are clogged due to soap, hair, toilet tissue, other toiletries, liquids and most of the time food.

Some Do’s and Don’ts of drain cleaning:

DO NOT use drain cleaners available at local grocery stores as they are efficient only for slightly clogged drains, I call them a quick fix solution that lasts for about two days.

DO NOT drain vinegar and hot water down the drain though this is considered a great household tip for clogged drains. Vinegar being acidic simply disintegrates a part of the buildup and damages the pipes, replacement of it is a costly affair.

DO NOT attempt to snake the drains by yourself. The steel cable can cause damage to stuff around it and chances are there that you may get cut by it too. It may be cheaper to rent the snake, but you may end up paying more if the coil snaps and causes damage.

DO GET the sewer lines jetted by professionals, who normally use a camera to identify whether the clog is in the drain or the sewer line and the treatment that is required.

DO GET the drains snaked by professionals for removing debris or any other material that prevents the free flow of the water.

Drains and sewer lines can get clogged in commercial as well as residential establishments. Plumbing and sewer cleaning services are offered by established companies offered drain and plumbing solutions. Leading companies like Dynamerican offer plumbing and drain solutions that are carried out by experts trained in the field to handle all drain and sewer issues.

Commercial drain cleaning involves grease removal and heavy drain cleaning. This is carried out with hi-tech equipments like high pressure Jetters and maxliner systems. Residential drain cleaning usually involves jetting the clogged food build up, clogging due to toiletries. Blockage due to roots in the pipe is the biggest cause of drain/sewer blockage.

Well established and reputed plumbing solution companies make use of CCTV to identify the exact location and cause of the blockage. Regular cleaning and maintenance of the drain lines is the best way to prevent huge costs.  Clogged drains are a major cause of health hazards.

How to prevent sewer line clogging:
  • Throw toilet wastes like toilet paper, tampons, etc. in the waste basket and not flush it down
  • Prevent kids from dropping toys into the toilet
  • Do not dispose solid wastes into the floor drain as the debris clog the sewer lines and cause overload on the plumbing system
  • Do not drain kitchen wastes like fats, oils, vegetables into the drain. Collect and dispose them in the trash bins. When food accumulates in the drain pipes, not only does it clog but gives out a foul odor too
Dynamerican, is a leading plumbing solutions company based in Ohio that offers sophisticated drain and plumbing solutions for old and new establishments. With use of the Rover technology, the plumbing experts inspect the drain lines with a closed circuit television camera to identify the problem in the drain pipes. For the roots that cause clogging, the Madreal testing and foaming root treatment is available. The no dig blockage removal technique ensures that the landscape is not ruined and only that area of problem is dug up to repair the pipe. For all your plumbing and sewer cleaning needs, contact Dynamerican now to get the best services at the most affordable rates.

Keep The Cooling System In Top Shape-The Cooling System Maintenance Checklist

Non performing HVAC systems are a burden not just on the pocket, but the environment too. To ensure that the HVAC systems perform efficiently, regular inspection and maintenance by licensed professionals is mandatory. This not only helps you to lower the electricity bills, but also extend the life of the equipment.

Maintenance Checklist for HVAC systems

  • Replace the filter every 90 days, though check it every month. Replace it with the pleated filter, which Is more efficient
  • There should be at least two feet clearance around the outdoor heat pump/air conditioning unit
  • The thermostat setting should be set to cooling or heating that is comfortable for you as that will save energy
  • Check the voltages on motors and tighten all electric connections
  • All moving parts should be well lubricated to reduce friction
  • The condensation drain should be inspected as a blocked drain affects the humidity levels and may cause water damage
  • The controls of the HVAC systems should be checked for safe operation. The system must start, operate and shut off properly
  • The coils of the condenser and evaporator must be cleaned to sustain the cooling efficiency of the HVAC cooling system. If the coils are dirty, more energy is required to cool the area, which makes the system run longer, use more energy and increase the power bills
  • The central air conditioner refrigerant level must be checked and adjusted for optimal performance of the cooling system. Too less or too much refrigerant increases the cost, reduces the life and efficiency of the HVAC system
  • The blower components must be cleaned and adjusted for proper air flow and comfort levels. The blower assembly consists of a blower housing, blower wheel and motor
  • For older models of the HVAC system, the motor needs lubrication and the fan belt may need to be replaced
  • Inspection of fan motor and blades
  • Control box includes contractors, relays, circuit board, capacitors and other accessories. The control box must be checked for damage to the electrical parts
  • The compressor and associated tubing should be checked for damages
  • Inspection of the duct line for leakages in air flow
When the system is in operation

  • Monitor the system for its capabilities
  • Make a note of an abnormal sound if any
  • Search for unusual odors
  • Check the vent system for blockages or irregular air flow
Call the professionals every spring and fall to inspect the HVAC systems in homes, offices or industries.   You can prolong the life of your HVAC system by following a code for cooling system maintenance.  It is a good idea to enter into a contract with licensed HVAC installation and maintenance contractors to maintain the equipment and prevent unwanted expenses.
